Essential Duties:

  • Direct the daily activities of the department. Plan and organize work, communicate goals, and schedule employees to ensure proper coverage.  Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Ability to initiate/recommend salary, disciplinary, or other staffing/human resources-related actions in accordance with Company/Hotel rules and policies.
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.
  • Ability to arrange and/or recommend for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
  • Direct, educate and/or train employees on current safety issues to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws and safety regulations. Inform management of hazardous situations, emergencies or threats to the security of guests, employees or hotel assets.
  • Inspect, evaluate and oversee the physical operations of the hotel.
  • Ensure the execution and achievement of the hotel’s preventive maintenance program goals.
  • Establish and maintain procedures to (1) ensure the security of inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, televisions, etc., (2) replenish supplies and inventory in a timely and efficient manners and (3) minimize waste.
  • Monitor budget and control expenses within all areas of the department. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and Capital plans which support the overall objectives of the hotel.
  • Work with corporate product managers, engineers and/or outside architects regarding renovations and other such projects; contact contractors for bids and meet with appropriate construction/renovation supervisors to ensure timely completion of projects within budget and establish future maintenance commitments.
  • Responsible for determining the security requirements necessary to ensure that hotel property, employees, and guest are protected against theft, crime.
  • Promote safety within department and all hotel areas. Ensuring all department staff members are following OSHA, MSDS, and Hotel Safety requirements.
  • Maintain positive guest relations.
  • Handle guest complaints following the instant pacification procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Attend regularly trainings and daily, weekly and/or monthly meetings.
  • May assist by performing other duties as needed.

 Qualifications:

     Essential:

  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding. Outstanding communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to provide legible communication.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of college or vocational training in electrical, mechanical engineering, plumbing, building maintenance, technology or related field (including safety principals).
  • Five (5) plus years of work experience in facilities maintenance, plant operations or engineering services for a hotel and/or resort.
  • Experience in technical crafts (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc). Specialization in these trades is required.
  • Active CPR, First Aid certifications.
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Ability to be physically present at the hotel on a regular basis.

      Desirable:

  • Fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish.
